This Army techniques publication (ATP) encompasses the tactics, techniques, procedures, and lessons learned by personnel at Fort Bliss, Fort Campbell, Fort Bragg, and overseas. It also incorporates as data extracted from Operations DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM, RESTORE HOPE, PROVIDE DEMOCRACY, ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, and RESOLUTE SUPPORT.
This ATP is designed primarily to serve as a reference for the training and employment of mounted mobility SF detachments. The aim of this ATP is to describe those actions (tactics, techniques, and procedures) best suited to counter the threats to the mobility detachment in hope of educating and reducing the casualty rate during combat operations. It is applicable to operations in desert or jungle terrain, of long and short (term) duration, in both assisted and unassisted (operations) environments.
This ATP is specifically for SF; however, it is also intended for use by Army special operations forces (SOF) to improve the integration of SF into the plans and operations of other Army SOF and conventional forces.
ATP 3-18.14 applies to the Active Army, the Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, and the U.S. Army Reserve unless otherwise stated.
