TM 4-33.31 describes principles for planning, establishing, and executing maintenance operations in protracted extreme cold weather environments. Furthermore, this publication describes principles of maintenance operations and precautions for equipment operators and their supervisors.
The Army’s fundamental purpose is to win wars through land force dominance regardless of location or climate. This manual provides general principles and technical guidance for field maintenance, operation, and repair of equipment under extreme cold weather conditions from freezing down to temperatures below -65 degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or -54 degrees Celsius (°C).
Military operations in extreme cold conditions occur at the limit of what is safe and what is dangerous. TM 4-33.31 is focused on a combat environment where Soldiers cannot always count on the availability of resources that sustain them in garrison. This manual assist unit commanders, supervisors (maintenance officers, maintenance technicians, motor sergeants, and section leaders), and maintenance personnel in anticipating and planning for the onset of extreme cold weather or an arctic deployment. Further, it is the intent of this manual to stimulate creativity and forward thinking and support the development of mission-focused standard operating procedures.
TM 4-33.31 is intended to familiarize equipment operators and maintainers on the unique difficulties of maintenance in extreme cold weather. This TM shows ways to adjust maintenance operations in arctic and extreme cold weather, and the expected performance of materials below freezing temperatures. It provides a consolidated overview of the special and unique difficulties that Soldiers can expect to encounter while performing field maintenance in extreme cold weather environments.
This book is a “Mini” (half the size of a piece of paper).
A popular size to carry anywhere (briefcase, large pocket, purse) but the print is large enough for easy reading. The binding is with coil, allowing easy flipping of pages without jamming.
The color covers are laminated for weather protection with black and white inside printing.
(A BIG size version (8 1/2 inch by 11 inch, the same size as a regular sheet of paper) is on this website too)
