CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Purpose and Scope. Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Sea Air Land (SEAL) teams are a maritime, multi- purpose, combat force designated by the Secretary of Defense to be task-organized, trained, and equipped to plan, conduct, and support a variety of special operations (SO) in all environments and levels of conflict. A clear understanding of NSW capabilities and limitations is essential to the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned missions. NSW forces are capable of operating independently and with limited support in hostile environments. However, the success of NSW operations depends upon many factors such as critical intelligence information, detailed mission planning, rehearsals, and strategic mobility. This Naval Warfare Publication (NWP) provides information for a better understanding of tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) of basic NSW operations.
