Army Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (ATTP) 3-18.04, Special Forces Special Reconnaissance, supports the Special Forces (SF) keystone manual. ATTP 3-18.04 provides the doctrinal basis for the conduct of special reconnaissance (SR) operations across the continuum.
PURPOSE
As with all doctrinal manuals, ATTP 3-18.04 is authoritative but not directive. It serves as a guide and does not preclude SF units from developing their own standing operating procedures to meet their needs. It explains planning, roles of SF in SR, and the various training that SF Soldiers participate in to conduct SR operations. Other SF core tasks are discussed at length in appropriate manuals.
SCOPE
The primary users of this manual are commanders, staff officers, and operational personnel at the team (Special Forces operational detachment A [SFODA]), company (Special Forces operational detachment B), and battalion (Special Forces operational detachment C) levels. This ATTP is specifically for SF; however, it is also intended for use by Army special operations forces to improve the integration of SF into the plans and operations of other Army special operations forces and conventional forces.
APPLICABILITY
Commanders and trainers should use this and other related manuals in conjunction with command guidance to plan and conduct successful SR operations. This publication applies to the Active Army, Army National Guard (ARNG)/Army National Guard of the United States (ARNGUS), and United States Army Reserve (USAR) unless otherwise stated.
